What To Expect During A Professional Roofing Replacement

Your roof may have reached the end of its lifespan or you've experienced damage from severe weather. Whatever the reason, you've hired a roofing contractor to replace your roof. We believe people should know what to expect, so we're explaining the process here.

1. Prepare Your Home for Roof Replacement

If you have an attic, you should cover it with a tarp. Remove anything that is out in the open, near your home, that falling debris can damage. Patio furniture, potted plants and grills are all things that may need to be moved. We ask that gates are unlocked, if needed, so all areas of the yard can be accessed. We recommend removing any fragile wall decor, especially items on the top level of your home or business, to protect them from falling off the wall during the process. We will remove roof accessories like satellite dishes, solar panels, etc.

Plan to keep kids and pets inside to keep them safe from debris falling from the roof during the process. If your removal and installation takes place over multiple days and kids and pets need to access the yard, be cognizant of debris that may have landed in the yard during the process. A final cleanup will take care of any debris, but there may be some in the middle of the process.

If you plan to be home during the work, please note that the process does create noise and if you require a quiet environment (for working, for sleep, etc.) you may want to make other arrangements during your roof installation.

We will advise you if a dumpster needs to be delivered in advance of your roofing project.

2. Protection of Your Property

We will ensure that your siding, plants, landscaping, and bushes are covered, as needed to protect them during the removal and installation process. If there is something that is especially important or of concern, it's best to discuss those items with us before we get to work.

3. Removal of Your Old Roofing

All of your old materials are removed, including the shingles, nails, caulk, flashing, and tar paper.

4. The Roofer Inspects Your Roof

We will inspect the wood deck for any rotten, soft, or moist wood. We also look for holes any other signs of damage. Any issues discovered will be repaired to ensure that your roof deck is in good shape and will provide a good foundation for your roofing system. We will also examine your vents and gutters to ensure that these elements are in good working order.

5. The Roof Surface Is Prepared

Once we've ensured that your roof deck is solid and in good shape, we will install an underlayment covering the entire area of your roof. Drip edges and ice and water shields are also installed at this time. This will prevent water from rain or melting ice and snow from reaching the wood deck of your home.

6. Installation of Your New Roofing Materials

The next step is to install your roofing system. The steps of this process will depend on the type of roofing material you have chosen. Each material has its own installation process and it's important to choose a roofer who has experience in the type of roofing you select.

7. Cleaning Up the Site

Throughout the roofing process, our roofers will be careful not to damage landscaping. We use magnets to remove any debris or nails from your yard. Having your lawn mowed will help ensure that we can see debris during our cleanup. We will also remove any netting or plywood we've laid down to protect your home and plants.

8. Inspection of the New Roof

Before we consider the job done, our team completes a final inspection of the roof. Once we're satisfied that the job is done to your specifications, we will show you the work to ensure that you are happy with the workmanship and cleanup.

9. Commitment to Quality After The Work

We stand behind our work. Should you have concerns after we've completed the installation, please do not hesitate to call us. We want you to be 100% satisfied with the work and we will do whatever is necessary to make that happen.
